The History Of Google Adsense

Oingo, Inc., a privately held company located in Los Angles, was started in 1998 by Gilad Elbaz and Adam Weiss-man. A search algorithm which is developed bye Oingo which is based on words meanings and built upon an underlying lexicon called WordNet, Princeton University's researchers developed this in the previous 15 years and led by George Miller.
In 2001 Oingo changed its name to Applied Semantics, which was later acquired by Google in April 2003

In March 2003 Google launched its program Adsense and made it public in June of that year. Some of advertisers complained that Adsense yielded worse results than AdWords, since Adsense served ads on a web page that related to contextually to the content and that content was less likely to be related to a user's commercial desires than search results. For Example : someone is browsing a blog dedicated to flowers is less likely to be interested in ordering the flowers than someone who is searching for terms related to flowers. As a result, Google allowed its advertisers to opt out of the Adsense network.

Adsense accounted for an estimated 15 % of Google's total revenues early.

In 2009, Google Adsense announced that it would now be offering new features, including the abilities to "enable multiple networks to display ads".

Google Adesense started using search history in a contextual matching to offer their more relevant ads in February 2010.
